Food fads really get on my nerves. One minute people are saying that green tea is the thing to help you lose weight and then they say that you should just drink water. They say that blueberries are really high in antioxidants and then the price goes up really high. I tend to take all of these health claims with a pinch of salt and do some research myself to determine whether I think they are worth adding into my diet. I also consider other factors too such as the cost and the taste. If I think that my family will not eat it then there is no point in buying it. I tend to consider whether I can find recipes which might help to gently incorporate a new food into our diet. The children are toddlers and so new foods tend to be pretty scary for them at times. I have recently decided to introduce flax seeds into our diet. The reason for this is that my mother has recently had heart surgery and it has really opened my eyes as to what you have to go through if you do not look after your body. I know that flax seeds contain omega 3 which is very healthy for the heart and although I consider it to be a bit of a fad food, I know that there is scientific evidence that it does improve heart health. I have found some flax seed recipes so that I can get some ideas of how I can disguise them in the dishes that we normally eat in order to make sure that the children eat them without too much fuss. I did find that they were rather expensive and it almost made me not buy flax seed at all but with the health benefits being so good, I decided that it was worth the expense,
